Not so long ago, in a tiny village on the Oregon coast, a dreamer was stuck.  This man had a lot of ideas, schemes and plans for the future.  But he had a blind spot. It was like a little mole on the top of his head he couldn’t see.

One day another man spoke some words to the dreamer. Words that changed the dreamer’s life. The man said, “All you do is talk about your dreams. Get busy and do one of them, for goodness sake, or just sit down and shut the #^%! up!”

The dreamer was shocked into an unusual silence. The man’s words stung, but they were true words. The dreamer made a decision that changed his life. He decided to listen to the man.

And the dreamer stopped talking… and started DOing.

The man that spoke the stinging truth words was someone special………

For the next week or so we’re going to explore friendship.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend – Proverbs

I’m blessed to have some great friends. They are my SECRET WEAPON in life.

One of the toughest things about my friends is …they’ll tell me the truth. They call me on BS.

See,..my friends know me better than I know myself lots of times. They enjoy my strengths and  patiently endure my weaknesses. They see a problem developing in my life long before I’m aware of it. And they just smile and keep their mouths shut.

That is, until I ask them what they think. Then they pause, laugh,.. and lovingly tell me the truth.

OUCH! Sometimes it hurts!

But….WHO ELSE would we listen to, if someone told us we’re full of &$%# ???????

My friends love me enough to tell me the truth,..and the truth still sets me free (if I listen).Mr. Stigler's Speech

How about you? What do you think? Have you ever had a friend speak words of truth to you? How did it feel?

Oh yeah . . I’ve got a bud who has definitely called me on my crap more than a few times! Having a close friend who really knows me, my goals, strengths and weaknesses, is extremely valuable. He’s pulled me aside to remind me to keep my head on straight in tough situations and he’s kicked me in the ass when I’ve been out-of-line.

Kenny Eller has an awesome related post on his site, MeVsMJ: http://www.mevsmj.com/2010/11/who-calls-you-out. Thanks for the post, Steve!
