Do a Mini!

by Steve Prager on December 20, 2010

I believe our life/bucket lists can be divided into ‘minis’ and ‘maxis’.

Minis are micro goals that you can accomplish quickly. Minis are a Great way to get your SDN (startdonow) juices flowing.

(never underestimate the joy of little victories)

For example,..this week I knocked out two minis. I created my own t-shirt design, online. It’s nothing fancy, but it puts a Big smile on my face! You can see the results above.

Mini goal #1- design online T shirt with blog logo,..wear in public

Then I recorded a song (written in my army band days) using Band in the Box technology. Once again- no big deal. Just another jazz ballad… in fact, nobody I sent the mp3 too has responded (email me and you can have a copy!).

No matter,… I get a big kick out of my song blasting out of those little computer speakers!! Play it again, Sam….

Mini goal #2- record “It’s You” and email to famous musicians I know

BOTTOM LINE-Getting a mini or two accomplished,..quickly,.. feels great!

(Quickly is key- before the nay saying, nattering nabobs of negativity figure out what you’re up too!)

HINT- Your Maxi (writing that novel) is made of 20 or more Minis (pen the forward, ink in the 1st chapter, buy the domain name, create your outline, mind map your overall story).

Do a Mini!

I finally had a chance to listen to your song. Nice work.
Please send me a copy of the chart.
What were you thinking as the theme of your ballad? Have you written words?

Robin,

Thanks! Humbled you like it. I was inspired by evenings at home,..listening to my Mom play the old standards on here piano.

No words……let’s collaborate!

Nice work, Steve! You’ve got to make those shirts available on here for the new school of readers/doers you’re going to be inspiring. I’m planning to check off a handful of Minis myself over the holidays here. Thanks!

Right on, Steve!! I didn’t know that I’d change my life by just building a shaker when I was inspired by watching this guy George Jinda of the world jazz group, Special EFX. Fast forward 15 years, I’ve sold almost 20 thousand of them, became a professional drummer and drum circle facilitator and my whole life CHANGED by STARTing to make my shaker, DOing what it took to learn em and sell em, and NOW I am…the…SHAKERMAN! :)

Good luck!

PS – Pass on a howdy to Mark P for me!

I’m painting the house. I was sick of being in limbo and not enjoying the place we were living just because it’s a rental. By doing this I am able to enjoy my space more and really settle in to what feels like home. We are more invested in the space now and are much happier living here while we save money. BONUS: the landlord agreed to replace the carpeting since we are making other improvements for free. Score!

Hey Steve – Great post thanks! The title led me to think it was about a different topic, something I see is really popular in the blogs I visit…Mini-milism! Jo and I were recently looking at our STUFF and assessing the last time we used, read, wore etc., in the last year. Should we invite someone close to us to come over and help us dissolve our clutter? I hear it’s good Feng Shui…whatever that means. I think it might be a good idea to get started SOON in preparation for some traveling we might want to do in 3.5 years. What do you think…
